SHANKERS MUSEUM AND CARTOON GALLERY
Kerala,the
pioneers of political cartoon movement, again land marked by the
setting up of a cartoon museum and art gallery in the name of
the doyen of political cartooning,late Shanker ,at Kayamkulam,the
very birth place of the cartoonist,has been formally dedicated to
the nation on 31st July 2014,on his 112th birth
day itself.The project is the think tank of Kerala Cartoon Academy
and it was mooted before the floors of the Kerala assembly by sri
V.T.Balaram,the cartoonist M.L.A for and on behalf of KCA,around two
years ago ,accelerated the movement. Another member of the
legislative assembly ,who represents the area ,sri.C.K.Sadasivan has
also contributed about three crores out of his various funds
for the fulfillment of the venture. In a colorful function conducted
at the court yard of the structure built according to the Kerala’s
profound architectural tradition, attracted a lot of cartoon lovers
from different parts of the state. ,As the organizers haven’t been
spared a single local politician from the stage, paved the
spectators, the way to recollect the memory of the most
popular quoting of late Nehru ‘don’t spare me Shanker’ once
again.Late cartoonist's daughters Smt.Shanta Shanker and Smt.Yamuna
Shanker were also attended in the inaugural session as state
guests. The cartoon work shop conducted prior to the ceremony was
inaugurated by veteran cartoonist Sri.Sukumar and attended around 30
cartoonists have contributed their works to the gallery.
